Republicans can’t stop wasting money

The US government’s plan to replace the aging fleet of US Postal Service delivery vehicles with new electric models is facing opposition from Senate Republicans. The new vehicles, known as the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV), were chosen to replace the outdated Grumman LLV vehicles that have been in service since the 1980s. The NGDV offers improved safety features, better ergonomics, and lower emissions compared to the old vehicles.

Despite the clear benefits of the new electric vehicles, Senate Republicans are considering a tax bill that would auction off these vehicles at a fraction of their value. This move has been criticized as wasteful and harmful to taxpayers, as it would require the USPS to replace the sold vehicles with new gas-powered ones, leading to higher fuel and maintenance costs.

The USPS has urged the Senate to reconsider this proposal, pointing out that the funds generated from the auction would be minimal and that selling off these vehicles would cripple their ability to replace the aging fleet. The USPS also highlighted the environmental benefits of the electric vehicles, emphasizing the importance of reducing pollution in residential areas.

The opposition to the electric vehicles by Senate Republicans has been met with skepticism, as their justifications for the proposed auction do not hold up under scrutiny. The USPS has made it clear that selling off these vehicles would be detrimental to both the agency and its customers.

If you are concerned about the potential auction of the USPS electric vehicles, it is recommended to contact your Senator and voice your opposition to this wasteful and harmful proposal. Additionally, the urgency to install rooftop solar on your home before the end of the year, due to proposed cuts by Senate Republicans, is emphasized. Taking action now can help save money and contribute to a cleaner environment.
