Wasn’t Tesla supposed to start making a more affordable model 2 days from now?

Tesla has been teasing the public with the promise of more affordable models for quite some time now. Initially, there was talk of a $25,000 model, dubbed the “Model 2,” which was expected to be a game-changer in the electric vehicle market. However, plans for this model were canceled, much to the disappointment of many potential buyers.

Instead, Tesla shifted its focus to its Robotaxi project, which finally launched in limited form in Austin last weekend. The company also unveiled the Cybercab, a purpose-built vehicle for the Robotaxi service. This decision to prioritize the Robotaxi project over the more affordable model left many wondering about the future of Tesla’s lineup.

Despite canceling the $25,000 model, Tesla continued to hint at the release of “more affordable models” in its quarterly reports. However, as the deadline for the start of production in the first half of 2025 approaches, there has been little to no information about these new models. This lack of updates has raised concerns about whether Tesla will be able to meet its production timeline.

Typically, automakers provide some information or teasers before the launch of a new model. However, Tesla’s silence on the matter has left many speculating about what these new models could be. Some believe that Tesla might release a stripped-down version of the Model 3 or Model Y as a more affordable option. Others are unsure if these new models will be entirely new vehicles or just variations of existing ones.

The timing for a more affordable model from Tesla couldn’t be better, as the company has been experiencing a decline in sales in various markets. The lack of new models and increased competition have contributed to this decline. Additionally, CEO Elon Musk’s controversial political activities have also led to protests and customer backlash, further impacting sales.

With the need for a boost in sales and the pressure to deliver on promised innovations, Tesla may find success in launching a more affordable model. While there is still uncertainty surrounding the nature of these new models, many are eagerly awaiting any news or updates from Tesla. Whether it’s a completely new vehicle or a modified version of an existing model, a more affordable option could help Tesla regain its footing in the market.
