Alpine Unveils Rally-Ready A290 Electric Hot Hatch
Alpine has recently introduced a rally-ready version of its Renault 5-based A290 electric hot hatch. Priced at €59,990 (£52,000 excluding VAT), the A290 Rallye has undergone significant modifications for competition purposes. The interior has been stripped out and equipped with a rollcage and bucket seats to enhance safety and performance on the rally stage.
One of the key upgrades to the A290 Rallye is the addition of a limited-slip differential, allowing for better distribution of its 217bhp and 221lb ft of torque between the front wheels. To accommodate this change, tweaks have been made to the reduction gearing and control software of the vehicle.
In addition, an exterior speaker has been installed to provide rally spectators with an immersive sound experience. The braking system has also been enhanced, with larger 350mm front discs and six-piston calipers replacing the standard 320mm discs. The rear discs have been slightly downsized to 280mm for optimal performance.
To tackle tight bends with precision, a hydraulic handbrake has been integrated into the A290 Rallye. The vehicle is also equipped with ALP Racing Suspension dampers to withstand the rigors of stage rallying, along with 18-inch Evo Corse wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport A tires.
The A290 Rallye will be making its debut at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will showcase its capabilities on the hillclimb course. Alpine has also announced plans for a one-make rally series featuring the A290 Rallye, offering factory support and charging infrastructure to competitors.
Excitement is building for the arrival of the Alpine A290 Rallye, a formidable contender in the world of electric rally racing. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling new addition to the motorsport scene.
