Huawei-BAIC joint brand Stelato teases new S9T wagon

Stelato, a new automotive brand developed through a collaboration between Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), has unveiled a sneak peek of its upcoming model, the S9T wagon. This marks the second vehicle to be introduced under the Stelato brand.

In an announcement made last week by Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business, the first official images of the Stelato S9T were shared on social media platforms. The wagon is said to feature a distinctive green exterior and newly designed taillights, setting it apart from its predecessor, the Stelato S9 sedan.

Stelato is part of the HIMA consortium, which also includes four other automotive brands: Aito from Seres, Luxeed from Chery, Maextro from JAC, and Shangjie from SAIC.

The Stelato S9 was the first model launched by the brand on August 6, 2024, catering to the premium sedan market with a starting price of RMB 399,800. This mid-to-large-size executive sedan boasts dimensions of 5,160 mm in length, 1,987 mm in width, and 1,486 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.

The introduction of the Stelato S9T signals Stelato’s venture into the wagon segment, expanding its offerings to cater to a wider range of consumer preferences in the Chinese market. While wagons have traditionally been a niche market in China, the growing popularity of models like the Nio ET5 Touring wagon indicates a shifting trend towards versatile and spacious vehicle options.

Richard Yu, Huawei’s executive director and chairman of the consumer business group, hinted at the features of the upcoming Stelato S9T during an event on July 8. He mentioned that the wagon will be released in the fall and will offer both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants. Yu highlighted the vehicle’s spacious interior, excellent handling, and suitability for family use and camping activities.

With a strong focus on performance and range, the Stelato S9T is expected to offer impressive pure electric range and total range when fully fueled and charged. This aligns with the brand’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable mobility solutions to meet the evolving needs of modern consumers.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the introduction of the Stelato S9T wagon represents a strategic move by Huawei and BAIC Group to expand their presence in the market and offer a compelling alternative for customers seeking a blend of style, performance, and sustainability in their vehicles. Stay tuned for more updates on the official launch of the Stelato S9T this fall.
