Volvo brings its best-selling vehicle to South Carolina

Volvo, the renowned automotive manufacturer, has announced its plans to commence production of the XC60, its best-selling vehicle, at its Ridgeville plant in South Carolina. This move signifies Volvo’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities and meeting the growing demand for its popular SUV.

The Ridgeville plant, located near Charleston, is Volvo’s first production facility in the United States. With substantial investments totaling around 1.3 billion dollars, the state-of-the-art plant currently assembles Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90, and the Polestar 3.

By incorporating the XC60, available in both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, into its US production lineup, Volvo aims to cater to a wider range of customers and offer a comprehensive portfolio of electrified vehicles.

The XC60 has consistently been Volvo’s top-selling model globally and holds a significant market share in the US, contributing to over 33% of Volvo’s total sales. Notably, a quarter of XC60 buyers opt for the PHEV version, making it one of the leading luxury PHEVs in the American market.

“The XC60 is a beloved vehicle worldwide, and we are thrilled to bring it to American consumers, assembled by our dedicated workforce in South Carolina,” stated Luis Rezende, President of Volvo Cars Americas.

In recent sales figures, the XC60 continued its success by outselling other models, with a notable increase in sales compared to the previous year. Volvo’s decision to expand XC60 production in the US reflects the brand’s strategic growth plans and commitment to advancing its electrification initiatives.

Looking ahead, Volvo remains optimistic about its future prospects and is focused on accelerating its electrification journey. The EX60, having surpassed the iconic 240 wagon as Volvo’s best-selling vehicle of all time, underscores the brand’s strong market presence and customer loyalty.

In conclusion, Volvo’s decision to produce the XC60 in South Carolina represents a significant milestone for the company and reinforces its position as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions. As Volvo continues to innovate and expand its product offerings, customers can expect a diverse range of electrified vehicles that combine performance, luxury, and environmental sustainability.
