Xpeng, a leading electric vehicle (EV) maker, is set to expand its lineup with the introduction of extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, starting with its G6 SUV model. Spy photos recently surfaced showing a heavily camouflaged vehicle, believed to be the G6, refueling at a gas station. The images, shared by local automotive media outlet Auto Home, reveal the vehicle’s fuel filler cap on the driver’s side rear and the charging port on the passenger side.
According to reports, Xpeng’s first EREV model, internally known as the G01, is expected to launch later this year. The G01 will feature Xpeng’s Kunpeng extended-range system, offering a battery range of 430 kilometers and a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers. The vehicle will also support 800V fast charging for added convenience.
Additionally, Xpeng unveiled its Kunpeng Super Electric System in November 2024, promising a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers and a battery range of 430 kilometers for vehicles equipped with the extended-range system. This innovation aims to address range anxiety among drivers, setting a new standard in the industry.
During an earnings call in March, Xpeng announced plans to introduce multiple new models in the second half of the year, including both battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and EREV models. By offering both powertrain options for the majority of its upcoming models, Xpeng aims to significantly expand its addressable market and cater to a wider range of customers with its super hybrid products.
Reports suggest that Xpeng has at least five EREV models in the pipeline, including sedans and SUVs. The company’s P7 sedan and G6 SUV are expected to receive EREV variants, with the P7’s next-generation model set to launch later this quarter. Xpeng’s first EREV model is said to be based on the X9 MPV and is slated for mass production in the second half of this year.
Looking ahead, Xpeng’s E, F, and H platforms are also planned to feature EREV models, scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027. This strategic expansion into the EREV market reflects Xpeng’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle industry.
In the second quarter of this year, Xpeng achieved a record delivery of 103,181 vehicles, staying within its projected guidance range. This milestone underscores the company’s growth and success in the EV market, paving the way for future advancements and developments in the industry.
