Stark Future has once again raised the bar in the world of electric motocross with the unveiling of the VARG MX 1.2. This latest iteration of the VARG MX platform boasts increased powertrain efficiency, extended range, and a cutting-edge onboard computer that doubles as a military-grade Android phone. The VARG MX 1.2 continues to outperform its gas-powered counterparts, solidifying Stark’s reputation as a leader in electric motocross.
The VARG MX 1.2 retains the same 80 hp (60 kW) electric motor that made its predecessor a force to be reckoned with on the track. However, riders now have the ability to customize the power output on the fly, ranging from 10 to 80 hp (7.5-60 kW). This level of control allows riders to tailor the bike’s performance to their preferences, offering a versatile riding experience.
One of the standout features of the VARG MX 1.2 is the new handlebar-mounted smart device, the Arkenstone. This ruggedized Android smartphone connects wirelessly to the bike, providing riders with real-time data, GPS tracking, and customizable power modes. The partnership with a major map provider ensures that riders have access to accurate course splits and terrain data without the need for additional apps or equipment.
The bike’s 7.2 kWh battery, housed in a lightweight magnesium honeycomb case, offers up to 20% more range than its predecessor. With 973 Nm of torque at the rear wheel, the VARG MX 1.2 delivers impressive performance and power. The redesigned chassis features a stronger, lighter steel alloy frame, improved suspension with KYB components, and adjustable spring rates based on rider weight.
Motocross legend Kevin Windham praised the VARG MX 1.2 for its natural feel, instantaneous response, and overall performance. The bike has been rigorously tested in racing conditions under the guidance of two-time World Champion Sébastien Tortelli, ensuring that it can withstand the demands of competitive racing.
Additional upgrades include a durable overmolded wiring harness, a lighter and more efficient gearbox, a choice of Dunlop or Pirelli tires, and a reinforced skid plate made from biodegradable materials. Optional titanium hardware is available for weight reduction, and maintenance requirements are minimal compared to traditional gas bikes.
Despite the initial higher cost of electric motorcycles, the VARG MX 1.2 offers competitive pricing starting at US $12,490 for the standard 60 hp (45 kW) model and $13,490 for the 80 hp (60 kW) Alpha model. The bikes are available through Stark’s global dealer network or directly from the company’s website.
