Leapmotor, a prominent Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer with backing from Stellantis NV, has recently acquired its own car carrier to support its global expansion efforts. The car carrier, named “Grande Tianjin” and chartered from Grimaldi Group, will embark on its maiden voyage carrying over 2,500 Leapmotor EVs to Europe. This marks a significant milestone for the company as it looks to establish a stronger presence in international markets.

The naming, delivery, and maiden voyage ceremony for the “Grande Tianjin” car carrier took place in Shanghai, where Leapmotor executives and representatives from Grimaldi Group celebrated the partnership. Grimaldi Group, a renowned logistics company specializing in maritime transportation, has been Leapmotor’s logistics partner since 2022, providing the company with reliable transport capacity from Asia to Europe.

Leapmotor’s international business footprint spans over 30 countries and regions, with more than 1,500 sales and service outlets worldwide. The company has delivered over 800,000 units globally, showcasing its strong market presence and customer base. Leapmotor International, a joint venture between Stellantis and Leapmotor established in 2024, plays a pivotal role in the company’s global expansion strategy.

In a strategic move, Stellantis invested 1.5 billion euros to acquire approximately 20 percent equity in Leapmotor, becoming the largest external shareholder of the EV manufacturer. This partnership has enabled Leapmotor to accelerate its overseas sales efforts, with models like the T03 compact EV and the C10 mid-size SUV gaining traction in international markets.

The upcoming launch of the B10 compact electric SUV in overseas markets in September signifies Leapmotor’s commitment to offering cutting-edge EVs built to global standards. The B10, part of the company’s B series, was initially launched in China with a competitive starting price, reflecting Leapmotor’s focus on affordability and innovation in the EV segment.

Leapmotor joins the ranks of other Chinese automakers like SAIC Motor and BYD, who have also invested in dedicated car carrier fleets to streamline their global distribution operations. With its own car carrier, Leapmotor is poised to enhance its logistics capabilities and meet the growing demand for its EVs in overseas markets.

As Leapmotor continues to expand its presence on the global stage, the company remains committed to delivering high-quality EVs that cater to the evolving needs of consumers worldwide. The acquisition of its own car carrier represents a significant step towards achieving this goal and solidifying its position as a key player in the international EV market.
