Liebherr, a global leader in mining and construction equipment, has recently unveiled its first-ever battery electric crawler excavator. This groundbreaking development sets a new standard in heavy earth-moving equipment, offering low noise levels and zero local emissions.

The R 920 G8-E marks Liebherr’s entry into the electric excavator market, showcasing the brand’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. While Liebherr has made waves with its electric haul trucks and rapid DC fast chargers, the launch of the R 920 G8-E signifies a shift towards electrification in its mid-sized equipment lines.

The official release from Liebherr highlights the key features of the R 920 G8-E, emphasizing its quiet operation and emission-free performance. This electric excavator delivers the same power output as its diesel counterparts, making it ideal for construction sites in urban areas or underground locations where noise and emissions need to be minimized.

One of the standout features of the R 920 G8-E is its innovative control cab philosophy, known as INTUSI. This intuitive user interface integrates intelligent control logic and machine learning capabilities to provide operators with a highly customizable interface. The system simplifies operation across different Liebherr assets, from wheel loaders to excavators, enhancing operational efficiency and user comfort on job sites.

INTUSI offers a range of features, including haptic feedback, optical feedback, functional safety, hand detection, display navigation, and ergonomic design. These features improve situational awareness, streamline workflow, and enhance operator comfort, making the R 920 G8-E a versatile and user-friendly machine.

In addition to the advanced control system, the R 920 G8-E comes equipped with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, available in 188 or 282 kWh options. The machine is capable of 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing for quick recharging during shift changes or downtime.
