Best SUV for Value: MG ZS

The MG ZS is another SUV from MG that offers great value for money. Priced at less than £20,000, you can get a small crossover with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. For just a little over £1000 more, you can upgrade to the full hybrid version, which is capable of achieving close to 60mpg in real-world everyday driving.

We highly recommend the MG ZS with the hybrid powertrain. This innovative system includes a 101bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, a three-speed automatic gearbox, and a 134bhp electric motor. The electric motor primarily drives the vehicle, with the petrol engine assisting when needed to power the starter motor and supply current to the electrical system.

Despite its complexity, the hybrid system works seamlessly. When driving around town, the MG ZS feels like an electric vehicle – responsive, quiet, and energetic. Additionally, there’s no hassle of charging up with electricity, and a full tank of petrol can last approximately 450 miles.
