Kimera Evo38: Lancia 037 tribute gains 4WD and mild-hybrid

The highly anticipated Kimera Evo38 has made its official debut in its finished production form, set to wow audiences at the upcoming Monterey Car Week. This stunning vehicle boasts an impressive 600bhp, four-wheel drive capability, and even features mild-hybrid technology.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic WRC-winning Lancia 037, the Evo38 represents a vision of what could have been if the legendary model had continued its development beyond 1992. It serves as an evolution of Kimera’s first model, the Evo37, taking the concept to new heights.

One of the most significant updates to the Evo38 is the transition from a rear-wheel-drive setup to a four-wheel-drive system. This shift allows for power to be distributed to the front wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential, with the ability to adjust torque distribution between the axles using a cockpit controller. This flexibility provides enhanced traction on various surfaces and driving conditions, giving drivers the option to send all power to the rear wheels when desired.

Under the hood, the Evo38 is equipped with a turbocharged and supercharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine, now delivering an impressive 592bhp. This power boost is attributed to the addition of a 48V mild-hybrid system and a unique exhaust design that allows drivers to switch between a muffled road-friendly mode and a more aggressive straight-through setup. The turbocharger, visible through the rear of the car when the valve is opened, adds a touch of flair to the Evo38’s performance.

The transmission of choice for the Evo38 is a six-speed manual gearbox with a billet-aluminum linkage, providing a tactile and engaging driving experience. The chassis has also seen significant enhancements, including push-rod suspension and a strut-tower brace that integrates the turbocharger’s cooler, further improving handling and performance.

With its striking design, impressive powertrain, and advanced technology, the Kimera Evo38 is set to make a lasting impression at Monterey Car Week and beyond. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking vehicle as it hits the road.
