New DS No7 breaks cover as brand fights sales slump

DS Automobiles is considering the possibility of introducing combustion power to its lineup, despite initially focusing on electric power for its vehicles. The new STLA Medium platform used by the Nº8 model opens up the potential for an ICE powertrain in the future, as confirmed by DS future products boss Cyprien Laurentie. The Nº8, currently offered exclusively with electric power, could see a shift towards traditional combustion engines in the coming years.

The upcoming second-generation 7 SUV is set to be unveiled next year, according to DS boss Xavier Peugeot. While not directly mentioning the 7 by name, Peugeot hinted at a major reveal in the near future, following the launch of the Nº8 and Nº4 models. This new addition to the DS lineup signifies a positive step forward for the brand, especially after a period of stagnation in product launches.

The introduction of the 7 SUV could potentially help DS overcome its sales challenges, as the brand has experienced a decline in recent years. In fact, parent company Stellantis considered selling DS last year due to its struggles. However, Peugeot emphasized that sales volumes are not the only metric by which the brand should be judged. As a premium brand, DS focuses on profitability rather than sheer volume, as the premium market accounts for a significant portion of overall profits.

Peugeot highlighted the importance of having a premium brand like DS within the Stellantis group, as the premium segment contributes significantly to overall profits despite representing a smaller portion of sales volumes. By maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality, premium vehicles, DS aims to solidify its position in the market and appeal to discerning customers who value luxury and exclusivity.

Overall, the potential introduction of combustion power to the DS lineup, along with the upcoming launch of the 7 SUV, signifies a new chapter for the brand as it strives to regain momentum and establish itself as a key player in the premium automotive segment. With a renewed focus on profitability and product innovation, DS is poised to make a strong comeback in the competitive automotive industry.
