Nissan is set to introduce a new small electric vehicle (EV) that pays homage to the world’s first mass-produced EV, the Nissan Leaf hatch. This new SUV-shaped Leaf boasts a range of up to 600km on a single charge and is designed with efficiency in mind, featuring aerodynamic enhancements and a sleek new look reminiscent of the Nissan Z sports coupe.

While pricing details for the Leaf have yet to be announced, it is speculated that the entry-level variant could start around $45,000, with higher-spec versions reaching closer to $60,000. The interior of the new Leaf is spacious and modern, with smart packaging allowing for ample cabin space and practical touches like wireless charging, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a generous 437L boot capacity.

Under the hood, the Leaf is powered by a 75kWh battery paired with a 160kW motor, offering an impressive range of 604km on a single charge. Charging speeds have been improved, with the ability to achieve a 20-80% top-up in under 30 minutes. The Leaf also features advanced technology such as dual 14.3-inch displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a suite of active safety features including ProPilot driver assistance system.

During a test drive, the Leaf showcased impressive refinement, stability, and composure on the road, with a mature chassis tune that provided a comfortable and engaging driving experience. The new Leaf is expected to offer a standard five-year vehicle warranty with unlimited mileage, along with additional coverage options for the battery pack.

Overall, the new Nissan Leaf represents a significant leap forward in terms of design, technology, and performance. If Nissan can maintain an affordable price point, the Leaf has the potential to be a game-changer in the EV market.
