Dongfeng Motor’s luxury electric off-road brand M-Hero has recently unveiled the M817 off-road SUV, a powerful model that incorporates cutting-edge Huawei technologies. The M817 is offered in two variants, Pro and Max, with starting prices of RMB 319,900 ($44,540) and RMB 349,900, respectively, representing a reduction from the initial pre-sales price.

This five-seat SUV boasts a hybrid system comprising a 1.5 L engine and dual electric motors, delivering an impressive maximum power output of 505 kW (687 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 848 Nm. With these specifications, the M817 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, making it a formidable contender in the SUV market.

Equipped with a 31.7-kWh battery pack, the M817 offers a battery range of 140 kilometers and a combined range of 1,300 kilometers when fully charged and fueled. The model also features Huawei’s advanced ADS 4 assisted driving system and HarmonySpace 5 cabin system, enhancing both safety and comfort for passengers.

In the competitive SUV landscape, the M817 will go head-to-head with models like the BYD Fang Cheng Bao’s Bao 8 and the GWM Tank 500. The Bao 8, launched in 2024, also incorporates Huawei’s driver assistance system and is priced at RMB 379,800. On the other hand, GWM’s Tank 500, which began pre-sales in August 2025, offers two variants with prices starting at RMB 360,000 and RMB 388,800.

M-Hero, established in 2022, has been dedicated to developing premium electric off-road vehicles. Its partnership with Huawei in 2024 aimed to leverage Huawei’s intelligent automotive solutions to solidify M-Hero’s position as a leader in China’s luxury electric off-road vehicle segment.
