Volkswagen Teases Second-Generation T-Roc with Official Image

Volkswagen has given a sneak peek of the upcoming second-generation T-Roc with the release of the first official image. The new image showcases the car’s sleek and sharply raked roofline, hinting at a more dynamic design for the popular SUV.

According to reports from Autocar, the second-generation T-Roc is set to make its debut in the coming weeks, with an expected unveiling at the Munich motor show in September. The event is also rumored to be the stage for the debut of the ID 2X baby SUV from Volkswagen.

One of the most significant updates for the new T-Roc is the introduction of a new full-hybrid powertrain, which will also be utilized in the Golf and Tiguan models. This hybrid system, similar to Toyota’s technology, allows the vehicle to drive using either a petrol engine, an electric motor, or a combination of both power sources.

This marks the first time Volkswagen has incorporated such a hybrid system into its production lineup. CEO Thomas Schäfer explained that the decision to introduce this technology was driven by regional market demands, particularly in South America and China, where the T-Roc is manufactured.

Schäfer also highlighted the increasing interest in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in the US market, noting the shift in consumer preferences towards HEVs amidst a slowdown in battery electric vehicle (BEV) adoption.

While the full-hybrid powertrain will debut in the Mk2 T-Roc, Volkswagen plans to assess its suitability for other models in the lineup. The company aims to strike a balance between plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and HEVs in its portfolio, with the Golf and Tiguan set to receive the hybrid system in the next two years.

While not every vehicle based on the MQB architecture will receive the new powertrain, Volkswagen is committed to exploring the potential of hybrid technology across its range of vehicles.
