Xiaomi, the renowned technology company, has made significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) market, delivering a record 81,302 cars in the second quarter. The company is currently facing challenges in meeting the high demand for deliveries in China. Despite this, Xiaomi is gearing up to expand its EV business into the European market by 2027.
During an earnings call, Xiaomi President William Lu revealed the company’s plans to enter the European EV market and emphasized that they are currently in the research and preparation stage. While the Xiaomi brand is well-known globally, Xiaomi EV is still in the process of establishing itself in the overseas market.
In a recent interview at the MWC 2025 event in Barcelona, Spain, Lu mentioned that Xiaomi EV aims to sell EVs in overseas markets by 2027. This strategic move aligns with Xiaomi’s vision to establish a strong presence in the global EV industry.
On July 5, Lu shared a photo on Weibo showcasing an SU7 Ultra with a German license plate, marking Xiaomi’s first experimental vehicle registered in Europe. This milestone highlights Xiaomi’s commitment to expanding its reach beyond the domestic market.
Xiaomi’s founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun emphasized the company’s focus on meeting the domestic market’s delivery demands before venturing into overseas markets. With delivery wait times for the SU7 and YU7 models extending to several weeks, Xiaomi is working tirelessly to address production shortages and meet customer expectations.
In the second quarter of 2025, Xiaomi’s EV business reported a revenue of RMB 20.6 billion ($2.87 billion), reflecting a substantial growth trajectory. The innovative businesses, including EVs and AI, achieved a gross margin of 26.4 percent, indicating a positive financial outlook for the company’s ventures.
Despite significant investments of over RMB 30 billion in the past three years, Xiaomi’s EV business is poised to achieve profitability in the second half of this year. With a record-breaking delivery of 81,302 vehicles in the second quarter, Xiaomi is on track to establish a strong foothold in the competitive EV market.
As Xiaomi prepares to enter the European EV market in 2027, the company’s strategic vision and commitment to innovation are set to drive its success in the global automotive industry. Stay tuned for more updates on Xiaomi’s EV expansion and groundbreaking developments in the coming years.
