Xpeng, the renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently made a significant move in the hybrid vehicle sector by filing for an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant of its G7 SUV. This new model, known as the G7 EREV, marks the company’s second hybrid offering following the EREV variant of the X9 MPV that was introduced last month.

The G7 EREV comes equipped with an LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery pack sourced from Eve Energy, boasting a capacity of 55.8 kWh. This battery pack provides the vehicle with a range of 325 kilometers, making it a practical choice for drivers looking for an eco-friendly and efficient driving option.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China recently released a catalog of vehicles awaiting approval for public sale, with the Xpeng G7 EREV version included in the list. This step signifies the final regulatory hurdle before the vehicle can be officially approved for sale in China. Public feedback on the G7 EREV can be submitted between September 11 and 17.

The G7 EREV features a sleek design, with dimensions measuring 4,918 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height. It offers a spacious interior with seating for five passengers and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm. The vehicle’s curb weight stands at 2,645 kg, supporting a top speed of 202 km/h.

Under the hood, the G7 EREV is powered by a 1.5L engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine, serving as the range extender and delivering a maximum power output of 110 kW. This hybrid model represents Xpeng’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.

In addition to the G7 EREV, Xpeng has also unveiled the Turing AI driving chip in this new model, providing up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power. The company’s BEV variant of the G7 starts at RMB 195,800 ($27,490) and offers a CLTC range of 602 to 702 kilometers, catering to a wide range of consumer preferences.

With the introduction of the G7 EREV, Xpeng continues to expand its lineup of hybrid vehicles, with plans for at least five EREV models in the pipeline, including sedans and SUVs. The company’s commitment to sustainability and technological advancement is evident in its efforts to provide drivers with efficient and environmentally friendly transportation options.

Overall, the Xpeng G7 EREV represents a leap forward in the hybrid vehicle market, offering a compelling combination of performance, range, and advanced technology. As Xpeng continues to push the boundaries of innovation in the electric vehicle industry, consumers can expect to see more exciting developments from this pioneering automaker.
