Spy shots reveal what appears to be Xpeng Mona lineup’s 1st SUV model

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is rumored to be working on a new addition to its Mona lineup, following the successful launch of the Mona M03 electric sedan in August 2024. Recently, two spy shots have emerged on Chinese social media platforms, hinting at the development of the first SUV model from the Mona lineup.

The images depict a compact SUV with a front face reminiscent of the Mona M03. Bloggers on RedNote speculate that the SUV could measure between 4.6 and 4.7 meters in length and will feature frameless doors with half-hidden door handles, adding a touch of sophistication to its design.

This SUV marks the first glimpse of the Mona lineup’s expansion beyond the M03 sedan, which has quickly become Xpeng’s best-selling vehicle since its launch. With its competitive pricing and impressive sales figures, the M03 has set a high standard for the Mona series SUV to follow.

In August alone, the Mona M03 delivered 15,334 units, maintaining its streak of surpassing the 10,000-unit mark for the 12th consecutive month. This electric sedan accounted for 40.66 percent of Xpeng’s monthly deliveries, showcasing its popularity among consumers.

From January to August, the M03 achieved a total of 117,443 units in deliveries, contributing significantly to Xpeng’s overall sales performance during that period. The success of the M03 can be attributed to its competitive pricing, starting at RMB 119,800 ($16,820), making it an attractive option for buyers seeking affordability without compromising on quality.

The Mona series originated from Xpeng’s acquisition of the electric vehicle business from Didi Global in August 2023. Initially positioned as an independent brand, Mona has now been integrated as a product lineup under the Xpeng brand, showcasing the company’s strategic evolution in the electric vehicle market.

Looking ahead, Xpeng has ambitious plans to introduce Mona series vehicles in Europe next year, as confirmed by chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng in a recent CNBC interview. He stated that a variety of Mona products would be launched in Chinese, European, and global markets in 2026, highlighting the brand’s commitment to expanding its reach and offering innovative electric vehicles to a broader audience.

As Xpeng continues to innovate and expand its product lineup, the upcoming Mona series SUV promises to uphold the brand’s reputation for quality, affordability, and cutting-edge technology. Stay tuned for more updates on Xpeng’s exciting developments in the electric vehicle market.
