Mercedes-Benz to Introduce Electric-Powered C-Class EQ in 2026

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to expand its lineup next year with the launch of the electric-powered C-Class EQ. This all-new model will be twinned with the recently unveiled GLC EQ and will be positioned alongside a facelifted version of the traditional combustion-engined C-Class.

Serving as a direct competitor to BMW’s upcoming electric 3 Series, the i3, the C-Class EQ will feature a sleek design incorporating Mercedes’ new ‘Iconic Grille’ aesthetic, which distinguishes between ICE and EV models. This design direction was showcased at the Munich motor show, giving a glimpse of what’s to come with the C-Class EQ.

Built on the new MB.EA platform, the C-Class EQ will boast an 800V electrical architecture, similar to the GLC EQ, and will pave the way for the E-Class EQ expected in 2027. With an anticipated increase in size compared to its combustion-engined counterpart, the C-Class EQ promises to offer a more spacious interior with improved rear legroom and headroom, addressing previous criticisms of EQ saloons.

Featuring drivetrain technology shared with the GLC EQ, the C-Class EQ will be available in various configurations, ranging from a 335bhp single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model to a dual-motor 4Matic with up to 482bhp. Equipped with a 94.5kWh NMC battery, the C-Class EQ is projected to achieve an impressive range of 497 miles (800km) on a single charge, outperforming its SUV counterpart.

In addition, the C-Class EQ will support rapid charging speeds of up to 400kW, ensuring minimal downtime during charging sessions. An AMG variant is also on the horizon, set to debut in 2027 with powerful axial-flux motors developed by UK-based Mercedes subsidiary Yasa, surpassing the performance of the current plug-in hybrid C63 S E Performance.
