Tesla Model Y refresh starts production Oct 22, says Chinese social media

Tesla is gearing up for limited trial production of the new Model Y “Juniper” refresh at its Shanghai factory on October 22nd, as reported by a Chinese car blogger. This comes after the successful release of the “Highland” Model 3 refresh last August, which brought significant updates to the popular vehicle.

The Model Y, currently Tesla’s best-selling vehicle, has been the subject of much speculation regarding a potential refresh. While Tesla initially stated that there would be no refresh this year, recent sightings of camouflaged prototypes and leaked images suggest otherwise. The new Model Y is expected to feature a front-end design similar to the Highland Model 3, improved efficiency, and a quieter cabin.

According to reports, trial production of the Model Y refresh will begin slowly, with just 12 vehicles being produced per day and strict restrictions on factory workers involved in making the upgraded model. It is unlikely that the new Model Y will be available before the end of the year, as Tesla focuses on meeting Q4 targets.

Previous reports from the supply chain indicate that the refreshed Model Y may be available in Q1 of 2025. Production in Shanghai first suggests that the vehicle may not be available in North America immediately, following a similar pattern to the Model 3 refresh.

While specific details of the refresh are still unknown, it is expected that improvements from the Model 3 refresh will carry over to the Model Y. This includes potential aerodynamic enhancements, a quieter interior with increased use of acoustic glass, and interior upgrades similar to those seen in the Model 3. The controversial deletion of steering column stalks may also be carried over to the Model Y.

Overall, the Model Y refresh is highly anticipated by Tesla fans and potential buyers. With trial production set to begin in Shanghai, it won’t be long before we see the new and improved Model Y on the roads.
