Mini Unveils New John Cooper Works Hatchback and Convertible
Mini has completed its line-up regeneration with the introduction of the new combustion-engined John Cooper Works hatchback and Convertible. Both vehicles are powered by a twin-scroll-turbocharged 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder engine, producing 228bhp and 280lb ft of torque. This powertrain is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Despite the increase in torque, the new John Cooper Works hatch takes 6.1 seconds to reach 0-62mph, the same as its predecessor. The extra weight of 35kg in the new model contributes to this similar acceleration time, with a total weight of 1330kg. The John Cooper Works E, with a 255bhp electric motor, is slightly quicker at 5.9sec.
The John Cooper Works Convertible, weighing 1425kg, takes 6.4sec to hit 62mph. Both models feature a distinctive two-tone black and red exterior, aggressive front bumper design, and unique alloy wheel options.
Interior highlights include black and red cloth upholstery with a chequered flag pattern, a sports steering wheel with gearchange paddles, and a premium finish throughout. Deliveries for the new models are set to begin early next year, with pre-registration prices starting at £31,200 for the hatch and £35,200 for the convertible.
