Chery ready to take pickup truck overseas

Chery’s upcoming pickup truck, known internally as the KP11, has been spotted at a promotional event, possibly overseas. While an official model name has yet to be announced, it is expected to offer a range of powertrain options including petrol, PHEV, and EREV.

The front of the pickup features a bold grille with the Chery logo prominently displayed. The headlights are split with dual L-shaped lights, and there is a silver skid plate on the fender. The truck is a dual-cab design with traditional door handles and black cladding along the sides. The version seen at the event was equipped with a hard top for the bed, complete with a retractable awning for camping.

Noteworthy design elements include rear light clusters that extend deep into the sides of the truck bed, a side running board, and a step at the bottom of the bed. The tailgate also features the Chery logo in large letters. The size of the Chery truck is said to be similar to the Ford Ranger, but specific details about the powertrain remain scarce. Rumors suggest that the petrol version may be equipped with a 2.4-liter engine, with the possibility of a PHEV or EREV variant utilizing Chery’s Kunpeng system.

Last year, Chery collaborated with ZX Auto to develop a pickup truck, and it’s speculated that the KP11 may be based on the ZX Weishi 1986 model released in 2021. ZX Auto, a lesser-known Chinese pickup truck manufacturer, gained attention during the Libyan Civil War for converting their trucks into armed technicals. The KP11 is expected to launch overseas, similar to the BYD Shark, with sales anticipated to begin in 2025.
