BYD’s premium brand Denza has officially entered the Thai market, marking its fourth Asia-Pacific market expansion after Hong Kong, Cambodia, and Singapore. The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced its entry into Thailand and revealed plans to introduce the Premium-AWD version of the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in the country.
The all-electric D9 MPV available in Thailand boasts a length of over 5.25 meters, a maximum power of up to 275 kW and 368 hp, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. The Premium-AWD version offers an NEDC range of up to 580 kilometers, making it suitable for urban commuting and long-distance travel.
Denza has already established five showrooms in key areas of Thailand and aims to expand to 10 sales outlets within the year. This move comes as part of BYD’s strategic initiatives in the Thai market, following milestones such as the opening of its plant earlier this year.
Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD’s Asia-Pacific auto sales division, expressed confidence in Denza’s acceptance among Thai consumers, citing Thailand’s mature luxury car market as a key factor. The introduction of the Denza brand in Thailand marks a significant step for BYD as it continues to strengthen its presence in the region.
Denza, originally a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, saw BYD increase its stake to 90 percent in 2022, acquiring the remaining 10 percent from Mercedes-Benz. The D9 model is the flagship offering under the renewed Denza brand, with other models like the N7 SUV and Z9GT hatchback available in the Chinese mainland.
Despite challenges in the market, Denza delivered 10,781 vehicles in October, reflecting a slight decrease year-on-year but a positive trend compared to September. In the first ten months of the year, Denza delivered a total of 100,974 vehicles, showing resilience in a competitive landscape.
BYD’s expansion into the Thai market aligns with its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions and innovative electric vehicles. The introduction of the Denza brand in Thailand signals a new chapter in BYD’s global growth strategy, further solidifying its position as a key player in the electric vehicle market.
