BYD has expanded its offerings in Chile with the launch of the hybrid Song Pro DM-i, marking the 10th model the Chinese new energy vehicle maker has introduced in the South American country. The Song Pro DM-i made its debut at the third Experience E event held in Chile from November 7 to November 10, where it was showcased in three color options with a starting price of 31,990,000 Chilean pesos ($32,690).
Powered by BYD’s super hybrid system, the Song Pro DM-i boasts an NEDC battery range of up to 100 kilometers and a combined WLTC range of 1,011 kilometers. With a 0 to 100 kilometers per hour acceleration time of 7.9 seconds, the compact SUV features BYD’s DiPilot intelligent driver assistance system.
The second-generation Song Pro DM-i, currently available in China, was released on September 23 and incorporates BYD’s latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology. Priced at RMB 112,800 ($15,580), this model offers advanced features and performance capabilities.
In addition to the Song Pro DM-i, BYD also introduced the Shark hybrid pickup truck to the Chilean market. Initially launched in Mexico in May, the BYD Shark is set to debut in Chile in the first quarter of 2025. With a combined NEDC range of up to 840 kilometers and the ability to travel 100 kilometers on battery power alone, the hybrid pickup accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds.
At the Experience E event, BYD also showcased the Song Plus DM-i and Yuan Up models. The Yuan Up, which went on sale in China in March and was introduced to Chile in August, has been well-received in both markets.
BYD’s expansion in Chile is part of its broader growth strategy, as reflected in the company’s strong sales performance. In October, BYD sold 502,657 NEVs, marking a 66.53 percent year-on-year increase and a 19.84 percent uptick from September. Of these sales, 31,192 NEVs were sold in overseas markets, bringing the total January-October sales to 329,073 units.
With the introduction of innovative models like the Song Pro DM-i and Shark, BYD continues to drive the adoption of electric vehicles and hybrid technology in Chile and beyond.
