The Ioniq 9 Is the First Hyundai without a Roof Antenna

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a futuristic marvel that combines cutting-edge design with impressive aerodynamics. Despite its boxy shape, the Ioniq 9 boasts a drag coefficient of 0.259, making it one of the best in its segment. While it may not beat the Lucid Gravity’s impressive 0.24 Cd, Hyundai has employed several innovative features to enhance airflow and reduce drag.

One standout feature of the Ioniq 9 is its lack of a roof antenna, a first for Hyundai production cars. The GPS and satellite radio antennas have been seamlessly integrated into the windshield cover, while the FM/AM antenna is discreetly built into the tailgate glass. This not only improves aerodynamics but also contributes to the SUV’s sleek and minimalistic design.

In a surprising move, the Ioniq 9 also features aluminum fenders, a departure from traditional steel fenders. This lightweight material helps reduce the vehicle’s overall weight, although the SUV still clocks in at a hefty 5,150 pounds in its lightest configuration.

Another unexpected feature is the active spoiler equipped on the Ioniq 9. This production vehicle is the first from Hyundai to feature a dual-motion active air flap (AAF) system, further enhancing aerodynamics and airflow efficiency.

While it may seem like Hyundai eliminated the rear wiper to maintain a clean and streamlined look, the wiper is actually cleverly hidden underneath the upper lip of the tailgate, similar to the design of Range Rover SUVs. This discreet placement adds to the Ioniq 9’s overall aesthetic appeal.

Overall, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a blend of innovation, functionality, and style. With its advanced aerodynamics, hidden antennas, aluminum fenders, and active spoiler, this electric SUV is setting new standards in the automotive industry. Hyundai continues to push boundaries and redefine expectations with the Ioniq 9, making it a standout choice for those seeking a futuristic and eco-friendly driving experience.
