Volkswagen Is Planning a Major Design Overhaul With More Buttons

Volkswagen is currently facing plant closures and massive layoffs, which has impacted its sales and reputation in the market. The brand’s iconic Golf, which once dominated sales charts in Europe, has lost its appeal. The styling of Volkswagen’s electric cars is lackluster, and the interiors are oversimplified, leading to customer dissatisfaction. Additionally, the increasing prices of Volkswagen vehicles are making customers rethink their options.

To address these challenges, Volkswagen’s development boss, Kai Grünitz, has promised significant changes in the pipeline. In an interview with Auto Express, he announced that the upcoming ID.3 and ID.4 models will introduce a completely new design language. This shift aims to bring back Volkswagen’s original design essence and reestablish the brand’s reputation for innovative design.

In addition to the exterior redesign, Volkswagen is also focusing on improving the user interface and interior quality of its vehicles. The company plans to reintroduce traditional controls and buttons for easier access to essential functions, moving away from the reliance on touchscreen menus. The goal is to enhance the overall driving experience and address the quality issues that have plagued recent models like the Golf Mk8.

While Volkswagen has previously made promises to improve interior quality, the changes take time to materialize. Customers will have to wait for the next generation of cars to see if Volkswagen delivers on its commitments. The upcoming ID.3 and ID.4 models are expected to feature advancements in battery technology, performance, and cost-efficiency, promising a significant improvement for both Volkswagen and its customers.

Looking ahead, Volkswagen is considering transitioning the ninth-generation Golf to an electric model, potentially replacing the ID.3. This strategic shift aligns with the company’s long-term goal of electrifying its vehicle lineup. Ultimately, Volkswagen’s commitment to innovation and quality will determine its success in the competitive automotive market.

As Volkswagen prepares for the future, customers can expect to see a new era of electric vehicles from the brand, with improved design, technology, and performance. The upcoming models are set to redefine Volkswagen’s identity and set a new benchmark for the industry.
