Genesis Unveils GMR-001 Hypercar for Le Mans 24 Hours

Genesis has recently revealed its latest creation, the GMR-001 Hypercar, a top-class racer that will be competing in the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours. This stunning vehicle will be the first car to race under the Genesis Magma Racing name and will participate in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA Sportscar Championship starting in 2026, following the LMDh ruleset.

The GMR-001 Hypercar will be equipped with a chassis supplied by renowned French firm Oreca, as well as a hybrid system developed by Bosch, WAE, and Xtrac, which is commonly used in all LMDh hypercars. While Genesis has not yet disclosed which engine will power the GMR-001, it is expected to be a formidable contender featuring either a V6 or V8 configuration, similar to its competitors in the field.

According to Genesis, the design of the GMR-001 Hypercar is inspired by the brand’s road-going models, incorporating elements such as the Parabolic Line, a distinct crease along the car’s shoulder line. The Korean automaker aims to showcase a “confident stance on track” with this new racer, blending performance ambitions with its signature design-driven DNA.

Creative chief Luc Donckerwolke expressed, “The GMR-001 Hypercar and our Magma performance cars represent a fusion of Genesis’s performance ambitions with our design-driven DNA.” This sentiment underscores the brand’s commitment to excellence in both performance and design.

In addition to unveiling the GMR-001 Hypercar, Genesis announced the appointment of André Lotterer, a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Pipo Derani as its first drivers. Lotterer, known for his exceptional racing skills, joins from Porsche, while Derani brings his expertise from Action Express Racing, which fields a Cadillac in the IMSA series.
