LG Electronics, in collaboration with Ambarella Inc, a US AI semiconductor design firm, has unveiled its latest vehicle in-cabin sensing technologies. These cutting-edge technologies are set to be showcased at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025) in Las Vegas.
The integration of Ambarella’s CV25 AI system-on-chip (SoC) into LG’s Driver Monitoring System (DMS) aims to enhance vehicle safety. LG has confirmed that the DMS is already being utilized by a global vehicle manufacturer, highlighting its practical application and effectiveness.
The CV25 AI SoC is known for its industry-leading AI performance per watt, enabling real-time analysis of high-resolution video from in-vehicle cameras. This allows for accurate object recognition and supports high-definition video processing with high energy efficiency. The CV25, manufactured using 10-nanometer process technology, ensures high-quality imaging in various lighting conditions, ensuring stable monitoring regardless of the environment.
LG’s DMS utilizes VisionWare, a key component of the company’s AlphaWare mobility software portfolio, to detect subtle eye and head movements of the driver. This AI-driven system can determine if a driver is distracted or drowsy based on these movements, providing precise analysis regardless of external factors like race, gender, or accessories worn by the driver.
The flexibility of LG’s DMS solution allows for seamless integration into different software and hardware configurations, offering automotive OEMs the ability to customize their vehicle models. This flexibility extends to other Ambarella-based LG in-cabin solutions, such as the Interior Monitoring System and the Driver and Interior Monitoring System.
LG and Ambarella are committed to further collaboration to meet the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and General Safety Regulation (GSR) standards. LG’s active participation in Ambarella’s innovation ecosystem highlights its dedication to advancing AI-driven technologies for vehicle safety.
Eun Seokhyun, president of LG Vehicle Solution Company, emphasized the significance of the collaboration with Ambarella in advancing vehicle safety through AI-driven technology. Fermi Wang, president and CEO of Ambarella, praised the combination of LG’s in-cabin solutions with Ambarella’s AI performance per watt, enabling automotive OEMs to achieve high levels of vehicle safety.
The unveiling of these innovative technologies signifies a major step forward in enhancing road safety and setting new standards for in-cabin solutions. LG’s commitment to advancing vehicle safety through AI-driven technologies and partnerships like Ambarella showcases its dedication to innovation in the automotive industry.
