Citroën Focuses on Safety and Cost Reduction for EVs

The car safety testing body is constantly striving for more advancements in safety features, according to a recent statement by a company representative. Meeting the safety regulations set by different states and the European Commission requires continuous updates and enhancements to vehicles, which the company is dedicated to achieving.

One key factor driving the push for innovation in electric vehicles (EVs) is the UK’s ZEV mandate. This regulation mandates that manufacturers must sell a certain percentage of EVs each year, prompting a strong emphasis on reducing the cost of EVs to encourage wider adoption. The incremental nature of the mandate serves as a motivator for ongoing cost reduction efforts within the industry.

While acknowledging the need to promote EV sales, the company aims to avoid heavy discounts that could negatively impact residual values. Instead, Citroën is committed to boosting sales through sustainable strategies that maintain the brand’s reputation and value.

In terms of market performance, Citroën expects to maintain a market share of around 3.5% in Europe in the coming years. Despite challenging market conditions, the company remains optimistic about its stability, especially after a transitional period for the C3 model.

Looking ahead, Citroën has exciting plans for its lineup, including a facelift for the C4 and the introduction of the new C5 Aircross SUV in 2025. These upcoming releases are expected to drive growth for the brand and potentially increase its market share to above 4%.

With the launch of the C5 Aircross, Citroën aims to leverage cost advantages over competitors by strategically sourcing parts for the vehicle. By controlling production at its plant in Rennes, France, the company has the flexibility to optimize cost efficiencies and enhance the overall value proposition for consumers.
