The highly anticipated BYD-backed 2025 model year Denza D9 DM-i has made its way to dealers in China ahead of its official sales launch on December 26. With the addition of the 5.0 DM plug-in hybrid system and LiDAR sensor on the roof, the updated Denza D9 is expected to generate significant interest among customers as the competition in the Chinese market continues to heat up.

Originally introduced in 2022, the Denza D9 quickly became a bestseller for the brand, following Mercedes-Benz’s reduction of its stake in Denza from 50% to 10%. With a starting price of 339,800 yuan (46,600 USD), the cumulative deliveries of the Denza D9 reached an impressive 220,585 units between October 2022 and November 2024. However, sales saw a decline in the second half of 2024, prompting BYD to introduce the updated 2025 model.

The 2025 Denza D9 DM-i showcases a redesigned grille with new L-shaped chrome-plated elements and the addition of a LiDAR sensor from BYD-backed Robosense on the roof. This new feature enables the Denza D9 to support BYD’s latest Eye of God DiPilot 300 driving assistance system, offering advanced navigating-on-autopilot and autonomous parking capabilities.

Despite maintaining similar dimensions to its predecessor, with a length of 5250 mm, width of 1960 mm, and height of 1920 mm (20 mm lower), the 2025 Denza D9 DM-i retains its distinctive exterior design. The interior of the updated model features a three-screen layout with a large floating monitor, LCD instrument cluster, and independent touchscreen for the front passenger. Additional upgrades include a head-up display, streaming rear-view mirror, Devialet sound system, and enhanced seating comfort for passengers in the second and third rows.

Powering the 2025 Denza D9 DM-i is the DM 5.0 powertrain system, consisting of a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 115 kW (154 hp) and a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor on the front axle. The 4WD model also includes a 45 kW (60 hp) electric motor on the rear axle, with a battery capacity of 39.9 kWh providing a CLTC range of 190-200 km and a hybrid range of 1100 km. An electric variant with an 800V platform offering range options of 600 and 620 km is also expected to be available.

The 2025 Denza D9 further benefits from upgrades to the DiSus-C continuous damping control system, hydraulic bushings, and aluminum alloy subframes for improved suspension performance. Pricing details for the 2025 Denza D9 have yet to be announced, adding to the anticipation surrounding this innovative and feature-packed minivan.
