Scania, SKF, and LOTS Group have collaborated to launch a new long-distance route for battery electric trucks in Europe, with the aim of reducing emissions. The partnership, in conjunction with Sweden’s transportation service Ahréns Åkeri, is set to achieve a remarkable 97% reduction in well-to-wheel CO₂ emissions. This initiative also targets an enhancement in transport efficiency, with 85% of the vehicle’s yearly mileage driven with full loads.
The electric truck route will cover a distance of 221,000km annually, potentially saving 298 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions. To put this into perspective, this reduction is equivalent to the yearly COâ‚‚ output of 210 passenger cars in Sweden. The project’s strategy revolves around establishing recurring loops with guaranteed volumes and high vehicle utilization to mitigate the financial risks associated with investing in green technology.
The transition to electric vehicles will be implemented in phases, with initial flows being verified in early 2025 and full-scale operation expected by mid-year.
