BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has made its mark in the El Salvador passenger car market with the opening of its first store in the country. The brand launch event in El Salvador showcased a range of models including the Seagull, Yuan Up, Seal, Song Pro DM-i, and Song Plus DM-i.
Operating through a local dealer, BYD’s partner in El Salvador is Energy Motors. The company’s Vice President for BYD America and Regional Managing Director for BYD Latin America, Audrey Li, expressed confidence in the partnership with local dealers in El Salvador, a country ripe with potential and opportunities.
The move to enter the El Salvador market is part of BYD’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Central America. The company plans to further enrich its NEV product lineup in the country, demonstrating its commitment to promoting green mobility solutions in El Salvador and across Central America and the Caribbean.
El Salvador, a Central American nation bordered by Honduras, Guatemala, and the Pacific Ocean, offers a strategic location for BYD to grow its market presence in the region. This expansion comes on the heels of BYD’s successful launch of four models in Guatemala last November.
As the largest NEV maker in China, BYD reported robust sales figures for the full year of 2024, with a total of 4,272,145 units sold, marking a 41.26 percent year-on-year increase. Passenger NEV sales accounted for 4,250,370 units, representing a 41.07 percent year-on-year growth. Overseas sales also saw significant growth, with 417,204 units sold in 2024, a 71.86 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Looking ahead, Deutsche Bank projects that BYD could sell 5.52 million cars in 2025, highlighting the company’s strong growth trajectory and market potential. With its innovative products and technologies, BYD continues to drive forward its mission of sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
In conclusion, BYD’s expansion into the El Salvador market underscores its commitment to advancing green mobility solutions in the region. With a diverse product lineup and a strong partnership network, BYD is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for electric vehicles in Central America and beyond.
