2025 Subaru Forester recalled for wheel defect

The recently redesigned 2025 Subaru Forester is facing a recall due to an issue with its wheels. According to reports, 20,366 of these crossovers may have been equipped with incorrectly manufactured 18-inch alloy wheels. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stated that these wheels may have been made with the wrong lug seat surface spec, which could lead to problems with mounting the wheels properly to the hub.

This manufacturing defect could potentially result in a loss of stability while driving, ultimately increasing the risk of a crash. Subaru has assured the NHTSA that they are not aware of any warranty claims related to this issue. The problem was identified when the incorrect lug seat surfaces were discovered on the assembly line.

To address this issue, Subaru dealers will be inspecting the wheels on affected vehicles and replacing them as necessary, at no cost to the owners. Additionally, Subaru will reimburse any customers who may have already paid for related work out of their own pockets.

Owners of the 2025 Subaru Forester will be notified of this recall via mail starting on March 24th. They can also contact Subaru’s customer service department at 1-844-373-6614 or visit Subaru’s recall page for more information. The reference number for this recall is WRB-25.

Despite this setback, the 2025 Forester has received praise for its updated styling, more rigid chassis, and improved cabin sound deadening. Currently equipped with a 2.5-liter flat-4 engine producing 180 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, a hybrid powertrain is expected to be introduced later in the model year.

The Forester was a finalist for the 2025 Best Car To Buy award, showcasing its ability to cater to an active lifestyle. While it did not secure the top spot this time, the redesigned Forester has been commended for fulfilling its mission of being a versatile and practical crossover option.
