Pet Valu, a prominent pet supply retailer in Canada, has recently made a significant move towards sustainable transportation by adding two Volvo VNR Electric semi trucks to its logistics fleet. These new electric trucks are part of Pet Valu’s ongoing efforts to make its supply chain more efficient and environmentally friendly.

As a leading specialty retailer offering a wide range of pet products, Pet Valu is committed to reducing ground-level air pollution to ensure the health and happiness of pets and their owners. The introduction of zero-tailpipe emission electric trucks will play a key role in helping Pet Valu achieve its sustainability goals.

Nico Weidel, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Pet Valu, expressed the company’s dedication to improving its services for pet lovers and their furry companions. Each electric delivery truck is expected to save over 25,000 liters of diesel fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 62 tonnes per year. The company is eager to evaluate the performance of these new trucks and explore the potential for further electrification of its delivery fleet in the future.

The Volvo VNR Electric trucks chosen by Pet Valu are equipped with a 565 kWh six-battery pack configuration, providing a range of up to 442 kilometers per charge. These trucks will be charged overnight at the company’s Surrey distribution center using a newly installed 120 kW charger. Additionally, Pet Valu collaborated with Volvo Trucks to secure funding from federal and provincial incentive programs in Canada to offset the high upfront costs of the battery-electric semis.

Matthew Blackman, Managing Director for Canada at Volvo Trucks North America, commended Pet Valu for embracing sustainable transportation and taking a leadership role in the pet supply industry. The adoption of Volvo’s VNR Electric trucks is expected to enhance Pet Valu’s supply chain while contributing to a healthier planet.

Pet Valu’s decision to incorporate electric trucks into its fleet aligns with a growing trend among companies striving for sustainability. Volvo Trucks has already accumulated tens of millions of all-electric, zero-emission miles driven by its customers. With the upcoming launch of the next-generation VNL and FH electric semis, backed by extensive real-world data, Volvo Trucks continues to lead the way in electrifying the Class 8 truck market.

In conclusion, Pet Valu’s investment in sustainable transportation not only benefits the environment but also sets a positive example for other companies in the industry. By leveraging innovative solutions like Volvo’s electric trucks, businesses can reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a greener future for all.
