New Volvo ES90 to offer 434 miles of range

Volvo is set to unveil its latest electric model, the ES90, on 5 March. This will be the fifth series-production electric Volvo model to hit the UK market, following the EX30, XC40/EX40, C40/EC40, and EX90. However, what sets the ES90 apart is that it will be the first electric saloon from Volvo, deviating from the trend of SUV dominance in the market.

Volvo CEO Jim Rowan emphasized the importance of offering a diverse lineup of vehicles, including MPVs, sedans, wagons, and SUVs. Despite the popularity of SUVs, Rowan believes there is still a demand for premium saloons in the electric age. He mentioned that Chinese premium buyers, in particular, prefer saloons with ample legroom in the back, which will be a key focus in the development of the ES90.

The ES90 will share design elements with the current hybrid S90 and the EX90, featuring a closed-off grille, ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights, and upright rear lights. It will be built on the bespoke electric SPA2 platform used by the EX90, ensuring a close technical relation between the two models.

The preview image of the ES90 released by Volvo showcases a sleek side profile reminiscent of the S90, hinting at a sophisticated and elegant design. With its focus on luxury and performance, the ES90 is poised to make a mark in the premium electric saloon segment.

As Volvo continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup, the ES90 represents a significant step towards offering a comprehensive range of electrified vehicles to cater to diverse consumer preferences. Stay tuned for the official reveal of the Volvo ES90 on 5 March, as the brand continues to push boundaries in sustainable mobility.
