Alpina B8 GT revealed as firm’s final and most powerful car

Alpina, the renowned BMW modification specialist, has recently unveiled its final model as an independent entity – the B8 GT. This model marks the end of an era for Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH + Co KG, as ownership of the Alpina brand will be transferred to BMW by the end of 2025. The B8 GT joins its predecessors, the B3 GT and B4 GT, as the last ‘proper’ Alpina models to be produced.

Built on the foundation of the BMW 8 Series, the B8 GT showcases Alpina’s engineering prowess by housing the most powerful engine ever fitted in a production car. The 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, also found in the B5 GT, churns out an impressive 625bhp and 627lb ft of torque. This power enables the B8 GT to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 205mph.

To enhance performance, Alpina has tweaked the 8 Series’ four-wheel drive system and electronic differential to deliver improved agility. The suspension has been fine-tuned for better body control at high speeds, while a new bulkhead strut enhances front-end responsiveness. The B8 GT also boasts aesthetic upgrades, including carbon fibre trim elements and new canards on the front splitter.

The signature Alpina 21-inch wheels wrapped in specially designed Pirelli P Zero tyres provide a strong grip on the road. Inside the cabin, the B8 GT pays homage to Alpina founder Burkard Bovensiepen with his signature embroidered on the front seats and door sills. The interior is luxuriously appointed with Merino leather upholstery and Alcantara accents.

Overall, the Alpina B8 GT is a fitting tribute to the brand’s legacy of performance and luxury. With its powerful engine, enhanced handling, and exquisite design details, this final Alpina model stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to excellence.
