Alpine Announces Plans for 1000bhp Supercar Launch in 2028

Alpine, the premium brand under the Renault Group, has revealed exciting plans to introduce a high-performance supercar in 2028. The new model is set to feature a turbocharged V6 hybrid powertrain, generating over 1000bhp, according to the brand’s CEO.

The upcoming supercar takes inspiration from Alpine’s Alpenglow concept, which initially showcased a V6 engine. However, the brand has decided to enhance the power output by incorporating twin electric motors on the front axle, resulting in an all-wheel-drive configuration.

While Alpine had been heading towards an all-electric lineup, the decision to include a combustion engine in the new supercar signifies a shift in strategy. The brand’s CEO, Philippe Krief, emphasized that Alpine is focused on offering sporty, exclusive, and passion-driven vehicles rather than solely electric cars.

The development of the supercar, including the V6 engine and potent electric motors, will be spearheaded by the Renault Group’s racing and performance division, Hypertech Alpine R&D. The goal is to achieve a target weight of under 1600kg for the vehicle.

Krief, who previously worked at Ferrari during the development of the SF90 Stradale plug-in hybrid, highlighted that the layout of the new Alpine supercar draws similarities to the Lamborghini Revuelto V12 plug-in hybrid. The use of twin electric motors on the front axle, designed in-house by Hypertech, will enable precise power distribution for enhanced handling.

Alpine aims to achieve remarkable power density from its electric motors, with the V6 engine capable of delivering 1000bhp. The potential adoption of hydrogen technology in the supercar could offer a sustainable solution to comply with future emissions regulations beyond 2035.

With a projected price tag exceeding €200,000 (£168,000), the Alpine supercar is positioned as a limited-run project to ensure profitability. Krief hinted at the success of the Renault 5 Turbo priced at €155,000, indicating a favorable market for Alpine’s premium offerings.
