Apple is set to release iOS 26 this fall, bringing with it a host of new features and updates for iPhone and iPad users. One of the most exciting changes for automotive enthusiasts is the major overhaul of Apple CarPlay. The new CarPlay experience promises to make using the in-car technology even easier and more intuitive than before.

The first thing users will notice is the updated look of CarPlay. Apple has introduced a new Liquid Glass design that will give the interface a more modern and sleek appearance. The redesign includes visual updates to the apps, background, and border, incorporating translucent and glossy elements for a fresh new look.

One of the standout features of iOS 26 is the introduction of a Compact View for calls on CarPlay. Instead of taking up the entire screen, incoming calls will now display as a smaller bar at the base of the screen. This allows users to continue using other functions, such as Maps, while on a call.

Another new addition to CarPlay is the ability to respond to messages with Tapback reactions. Users can now quickly send a thumbs-up, heart, or exclamation mark response directly from the CarPlay interface, making it easier to stay connected while on the go.

Live Activities is another new feature that allows users to keep track of events and updates while using Maps or other functions on CarPlay. This feature displays notifications and updates on-screen, making it easy to stay informed while on the road.

Adjustable widgets are also making their way to CarPlay with iOS 26. Users will be able to add widgets to their CarPlay homescreen, providing quick access to features like calendars, smart home functions, and more with just a tap.

For those with CarPlay Ultra, additional features are being introduced, such as extended navigation capabilities that display on every screen in the vehicle, including the instrument cluster. Brands like Aston Martin, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Volvo are expected to roll out CarPlay Ultra features in the near future, expanding the functionality of Apple’s in-car technology.

Overall, iOS 26 promises to bring a fresh and improved experience to Apple CarPlay users, making it easier and more convenient to stay connected and entertained while on the road. With a sleek new design, enhanced features, and expanded capabilities, the latest version of CarPlay is sure to delight automotive enthusiasts and tech-savvy drivers alike.
