Are electric cars really quieter on the road?

The latest model of the Continental GT Speed is making waves in the world of luxury cars, particularly when it comes to noise levels. During a recent test, the car was observed to have a remarkably low cabin noise level of only 61.7dBA while running at a steady 50mph with the engine off. Surprisingly, this number only rose slightly to 62.2dBA when the engine was turned on.

It may sound perplexing to read these numbers, but the experience of being inside the car confirms the difference in noise level when the engine is running. The contrast is noticeable even at idle, with the cabin noise level remaining impressively low. This speaks volumes about the exceptional mechanical noise isolation of the Continental GT Speed, setting a high standard for luxury cars in its class.

While the engine noise is typically not the primary source of cabin noise in a car traveling at 50mph, the Continental GT Speed’s performance in this area is still commendable. Road noise and wind noise tend to be more prominent factors in overall cabin noise levels. In comparison, the Mercedes-Benz EQS, another luxury car known for its quiet ride, registers just 58dBA of cabin noise at the same speed. However, it’s important to note that the EQS’s high price tag of £130,000 contributes significantly to its exceptional noise isolation capabilities.

In conclusion, the Continental GT Speed proves to be a standout in terms of noise reduction technology, demonstrating superior performance even in the presence of external sources of noise. Luxury car enthusiasts can expect a refined and peaceful driving experience in this exceptional vehicle.
