Nio and CATL Join Forces to Create World’s Largest Battery Swap Network

Nio, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with CATL to establish the most extensive and advanced battery swap network for passenger cars globally. This collaboration aims to revolutionize the electric vehicle charging experience and make it more convenient and efficient for users.

CATL, a renowned battery manufacturer, will leverage its expertise to assist Nio in developing an innovative battery swap network. The partnership will also see the integration of CATL’s Choco-Swap technology standard into Nio’s upcoming Firefly brand models, enhancing the overall user experience.

The two networks will operate concurrently, offering electric vehicle owners a seamless and hassle-free battery swapping experience. This initiative is set to transform the way people travel with electric vehicles, making it easier and more accessible for everyone.

The strategic partnership between Nio and CATL signifies a significant step forward in the advancement of battery swapping technology. By combining their strengths in technology, management, and brand influence, the two companies aim to set new industry standards and accelerate the adoption of battery swapping services.

The collaboration will also involve mutual investments, with CATL committing up to RMB 2.5 billion in Nio Power, solidifying the strategic alliance between the two companies. Through shared resources and expertise, Nio and CATL seek to achieve a synergistic effect that will drive innovation and efficiency in the electric vehicle industry.

Both parties are committed to developing national standards for battery swapping technology in China, promoting interoperability between different brands and models. By establishing a comprehensive lifecycle loop that encompasses battery research and development, swapping services, asset management, and material recycling, the partnership aims to reduce costs and improve efficiency across the entire electric vehicle value chain.
