Betting big on ID.7 pays off for Volkswagen

The Volkswagen ID.7 range has expanded to include four different forms, with the European region’s ID.7 hatchback and the new ID.7 Tourer estate making an impressive impact in global deliveries, surpassing 40,000 units in 2024. This success comes after the Arteon’s successor, leveraging the MEB electric architecture, aimed to capture buyers looking for a more luxurious electric car experience.

The ID.7 GTX variants, available in hatchback and estate bodies, offer dual motors and all-wheel drive. The decision to remove the model identifier from the rear, displaying only a simple GTX badge, echoes the branding strategy of the iconic Golf GTI.

During a test drive of the ID.7 Tourer, it became evident that the vehicle’s size, almost five meters in length, attracted attention from enthusiasts of other luxury estate brands. The electric rear axle design enhances interior space, providing ample legroom and a flat, unobstructed floor. The boot space is equally impressive, offering 605 liters that expand to 1,948 liters with the rear seats folded.

With a range of around 300 miles, the ID.7 Tourer’s 86 kWh battery delivers a powerful performance of 250 kW and 340 PS, reaching 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds. The vehicle’s handling and comfort levels are commendable, maintaining a smooth ride even at almost 2.4 tonnes.

Standard features include AirStop tires, Matrix LED headlights, heated seats, a head-up display, and a Harman Kardon audio system. The interior boasts a luxurious micro-fleece upholstery and illuminated door trims with customizable colors.

Despite some minor inconveniences with the touchscreen controls, the ID.7 Tourer impresses with its spacious design, sporty elegance, and exceptional handling. Priced at GBP62,700 OTR, the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer sets a new standard for electric luxury vehicles.
