BMW Group Plant Regensburg has recently unveiled a new body shop at Plant Site 6.12 in Neutraubling. This new facility is a key component in the production of the popular BMW X1 and BMW X2 models, which continue to be in high demand globally. Plant Director Armin Ebner expressed his enthusiasm for the new production hall, stating that they are currently producing over 120 vehicle bodies per day to meet market demand.
In 2024, Plant Regensburg set a new record with an annual production of 342,521 cars, making it the BMW Group’s highest-volume vehicle plant in Europe. Over a third of the vehicles produced were electrified, showcasing the plant’s commitment to electromobility. Ebner emphasized that they are focused on building vehicles for the global market and contributing to the growth of electric mobility.
The new body shop in Neutraubling spans approximately 40,000 square meters and employs around 150 workers in a single shift. The construction of the new facility was completed in less than 12 months, showcasing impressive speed and collaboration with internal and external partners. The facility is equipped with 294 robots and 238 welding guns, capable of setting up to 4,771 welding points per vehicle body.
With an investment of over 550 million euros in the past two years, BMW Group has secured the long-term future of the Regensburg and Wackersdorf locations. The company is already preparing for the production of the next model generation, known as the NEUE KLASSE, which aims to set new standards for digitalization, electrification, and circularity. The plant will undergo further structural measures during a five-week production downtime in the summer of 2025.
Since its inception in 1986, the BMW Group vehicle plant in Regensburg has been a key production location, manufacturing around 1,400 vehicles of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 models daily. The plant is known for its flexible production line, capable of manufacturing different types of drive trains, including internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric models.
The completion of the new body shop in Neutraubling marks a significant milestone for BMW Group Plant Regensburg, solidifying its position as a leading manufacturer in the automotive industry. The company’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and meeting customer demands underscores its commitment to excellence in every aspect of production.
