The BMW Group faced challenges in 2024, with delivery stops due to Integrated Brake System (IBS) issues and subdued demand in China impacting sales performance in the second half of the year. Despite these setbacks, the BMW Group managed to deliver 2,450,804 vehicles to customers, meeting its adjusted sales target for the year but falling 4% below the previous year’s total.

One bright spot for the BMW Group was the performance of electrified vehicles, which accounted for 24.2% of total sales in 2024. The company delivered 593,215 electrified units, with fully-electric vehicles making up 17.4% of total sales. The BMW Group saw growth in fully-electric vehicle sales, with a total of 426,594 fully-electric vehicles delivered to customers, representing a 13.5% increase.

Both the BMW and MINI brands posted double-digit growth in fully-electric vehicle sales, with BMW delivering 368,523 units (an 11.6% increase) and MINI delivering 56,181 units (a 24.3% increase). The BMW brand also saw growth in deliveries across all vehicle drivetrains in regions outside of China.

Jochen Goller, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to maintain its growth trajectory for fully-electric vehicles in 2025. Goller highlighted the significant sales growth and rising new BEV orders in Europe as indicators of the company’s strength in the electric vehicle market.

In terms of regional performance, the BMW brand delivered 2,200,177 vehicles in 2024, a slight decrease of 2.3% compared to the previous year. The brand saw market share expansion in Europe, with double-digit sales growth in Italy, France, and the UK. Sales also grew in the US, and despite a shrinking market for fully-electric vehicles in Germany, BMW saw growth in new BEV registrations.

Overall, while facing challenges in 2024, the BMW Group remains optimistic about its future in the electric vehicle market and is committed to maintaining its growth in fully-electric vehicle sales in the coming year.
