The night was dark and chilly, reminiscent of a snowy evening when my car’s battery was running low. With only 213 miles left (2.6mpkWh from 100%), I knew I had to find a charging station soon. Fast chargers can be expensive, so I debated whether to push on or make a quick stop for a “splash and dash” to top up the battery.
In the end, I decided to stop at the pricey Shell chargers at Tot Hill services. However, my charging attempt failed, leaving me frustrated and with no extra charge. I drove off cautiously, drafting behind a coach to conserve energy, and finally made it home with only 5% battery remaining. That day, I managed to achieve 3.2mpkWh, consuming 81KWh of energy and a bag of Haribo for every 261 miles traveled.
Now, the BMW i5 Touring has been returned to the manufacturer after spending several months in my care. This electric version of the BMW 5 Series Touring is a spacious executive wagon, boasting 81.2kWh of usable battery and 592bhp through all four wheels in the M version. With a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 143mph, this car is a powerful machine.
Despite its weight of 2425kg, the BMW i5 Touring is still lighter than the latest M5 Touring. While it carries the M badge and impressive performance stats, it remains true to its 5 Series roots, offering comfort and practicality alongside its impressive power. My time with the BMW i5 Touring has been a pleasure, and I can attest to its capabilities on the road.
