TravelCenters America (TA) and BP have recently unveiled their first DC fast charging hub on I-95 in Jacksonville, Florida, marking the beginning of a series of EV charging stations to be established. This initiative comes as a response to the growing demand for electric vehicles, with more customers making the switch from gas-powered vehicles to electric cars.

Known for its iconic red, white, and blue logo, TA has been a trusted stop for road-trippers looking for safe and convenient locations along their journey. The company aims to maintain its reputation as it adapts to the changing needs of its customers, offering EV charging options alongside traditional fueling services.

Debi Boffa, CEO of TravelCenters of America, expressed excitement about the partnership with BP and the launch of the new charging hub. She reassured customers that TA remains committed to providing reliable fueling options for all vehicles, whether they run on gas or electricity.

The DC fast charging hub on I-95 features 12 charging ports capable of delivering up to 400kW of power for fast and efficient charging. In addition to charging facilities, EV drivers can access restrooms, convenience stores, and popular fast food chains like Popeyes and Subway at TA locations. Some centers even offer amenities such as wifi and pet-friendly services, making them ideal partners for BP as they expand their charging network.

Sujay Sharma, CEO of BP Pulse Americas, emphasized the strategic location of the charging hubs along key highway corridors, providing customers with convenient charging options and essential amenities such as restaurants and restrooms. This initiative is part of BP’s larger plan to increase its EV charging network in the US, with a focus on delivering reliable and accessible charging solutions for electric vehicle owners.

BP currently operates over 37,000 EV charging ports globally and aims to have more than 100,000 in service by 2030. The company made headlines in 2022 when it predicted that its EV chargers would soon be more profitable than traditional gas pumps, a forecast that has now become a reality.

In conclusion, the collaboration between TA and BP represents a significant step towards building a sustainable and efficient charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. As the demand for EVs continues to rise, initiatives like these will play a crucial role in supporting the transition to cleaner and greener transportation options.
