Aptera’s first real-world testing achieves ‘groundbreaking’ results

Aptera Motors, the solar EV startup, recently shared an exciting progress update that showcases its first production-intent validation vehicle undergoing testing in real-world conditions in the Mojave Desert. This development marks a significant step forward for Aptera as it aims to bring its Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV) to production.

In the past few months, updates from Aptera regarding SEV testing have been scarce. However, last October, Aptera shared footage of its first production-intent SEV driving at low speeds in a parking lot, signaling a major milestone in the company’s progress.

Fast forward to the present, Aptera took its completed production-intent SEV to the Mojave Desert for core efficiency testing under real-world conditions. The testing included a coastdown to measure aerodynamic, rolling, and powertrain losses, with Aptera achieving groundbreaking results.

During the coastdown test, the SEV took three minutes to decelerate from 60 mph to a stop, even while traveling uphill, demonstrating exceptional efficiency. Aptera’s engineers also conducted aerodynamic tuft testing to validate airflow simulations and fine-tune the SEV for maximum efficiency.

Furthermore, extended highway drive cycle testing was performed, with the SEV driving hundreds of miles while energy consumption was closely monitored in real-time. The testing data aligned closely with mathematically simulated predictions, confirming the SEV’s efficiency.

Looking ahead, Aptera is already working on its next production-intent validation vehicle, which will undergo further testing to evaluate range, solar charging capabilities, and overall performance. The company is committed to unlocking a new level of efficiency in solar mobility, making sustainable transportation a reality.
