BYD Hits Milestone with 90,000 Deliveries in Thailand as Local Factory Celebrates One Year
BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has achieved a significant milestone in Thailand as its local factory marks its first anniversary. The company recently delivered its 90,000th vehicle in Thailand, a D9 MPV from its premium sub-brand Denza. This momentous occasion was commemorated with BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu presenting the vehicle to Nualphan Lamsam, president of the Football Association of Thailand.
The BYD Chaser 05 plug-in hybrid sedan has also made its debut at the Thai factory and is scheduled for an imminent launch. Renamed as the BYD Seal 5 DM-i in Thailand, this model is set to captivate the market with its innovative features. Notably, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i is known as the Seal 05 DM-I in China and has garnered significant attention in the European market.
BYD made its foray into the Thai market in 2022, initially importing vehicles to cater to the growing demand in Southeast Asia. Subsequently, on March 10, 2023, the company commenced the construction of its factory in Thailand, signaling its commitment to the region. The factory officially began production on July 4, 2024, with the rollout of the first locally-made BYD vehicle, marking a significant milestone as the company’s 8 millionth vehicle globally.
With an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, the Thai factory is BYD’s first wholly-owned overseas passenger vehicle manufacturing facility. The current lineup includes popular models such as the all-electric Dolphin and Seal, along with the Atto 3 (Yuan Plus in China). Denza, a subsidiary of BYD, introduced the D9 MPV to the Thai market in November 2024, further expanding the company’s presence in the region.
In terms of sales performance, BYD Group reported impressive figures in June, with 382,585 NEVs sold globally, representing an 11.98 percent year-on-year increase. Overseas sales reached a record high of 90,049 vehicles in June, marking the seventh consecutive month of growth. In Thailand alone, BYD sold 21,458 vehicles in the first five months of this year, reflecting a robust 66.5 percent year-on-year increase.
Looking ahead, BYD is poised for further expansion in the Thai market, with plans to collaborate with Rever on ventures extending beyond passenger cars to include commercial vehicles. This strategic partnership underscores BYD’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
In conclusion, BYD’s remarkable journey in Thailand reflects its dedication to providing cutting-edge electric vehicles and sustainable mobility solutions to consumers worldwide. As the company continues to push boundaries and set new benchmarks in the NEV sector, its local factory in Thailand stands as a testament to BYD’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
