BYD Makes Entry into Swiss Market with New EV and PHEV Models
BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has officially entered the Swiss passenger car market with the launch of two battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The company unveiled its lineup, which includes the all-electric sedan Seal, the electric SUV Sealion 07 EV, and the hybrid SUV Song Plus DM-i, during a brand launch event in Switzerland.
The Seal U DM-i and the Sealion 7 are the rebranded versions of the Sealion 07 and Song Plus DM-i, respectively, for the Swiss market. These models offer impressive performance and range, with the Seal sedan boasting a battery capacity of 82.5 kWh and a WLTP range of up to 570 kilometers. The Sealion 7, on the other hand, is available in Switzerland with two powertrains and three trim levels, offering a WLTP range of up to 502 kilometers. The Seal U DM-i comes in three interior trim levels and offers a total WLTP range of over 1,100 kilometers on a full charge and a full tank of gasoline.
To make its vehicles more accessible to Swiss consumers, BYD has partnered with dealer Harmony to open its first store in Zurich, with plans to open additional sales points across the country. By the end of this year, BYD aims to have a total of 15 sales points in Switzerland, providing customers with easier access to its sustainable technologies.
Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and accessibility, stating, “At BYD, our mission is to make our sustainable technologies as accessible to as many consumers as possible, so every new market in Europe is extremely important to us.”
BYD’s expansion into the Swiss market comes as the company shifts its focus from combustion engine vehicles to plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles. In March 2022, BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered solely by combustion engines, achieving significant growth in NEV sales. The company reported selling 377,420 NEVs in March, marking a 24.78 percent year-on-year increase and a 16.90 percent increase from February. Additionally, BYD set a record for overseas sales in March, selling 72,723 vehicles, an 89.22 percent year-on-year increase.
With its innovative technologies and commitment to sustainability, BYD is poised to make a significant impact in the Swiss market and further solidify its position as a global leader in the NEV industry.
