Fang Cheng Bao has recently introduced its latest hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) model, the Bao 8. This new model aims to revolutionize the off-road SUV market by combining BYD’s electrification technology with Huawei’s intelligent driving capabilities.
The Bao 8 was unveiled at an event in Shenzhen, marking the second model from Fang Cheng Bao and the first under the BYD umbrella to feature Huawei’s driver assist system. This collaboration between BYD and Huawei began in January of this year, culminating in the official signing of a deal in late August to create a smart-driving solution exclusive to hardcore off-road vehicles.
Available in two six-seat variants and two seven-seat variants, the Bao 8 comes with a price range of RMB 379,800 to RMB 407,800, which is lower than the anticipated RMB 400,000 to RMB 500,000 range.
Equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0, released in April, the Bao 8 offers advanced intelligent driving features such as urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot). This system utilizes a safety-first end-to-end network architecture to provide a human-like, safe, and efficient driving experience. The vehicle can autonomously navigate various complex scenarios, including narrow lane turnarounds and gates.
In addition to the driver assist system, the Bao 8’s smart cockpit also supports Huawei HiCar, enabling seamless connectivity between the vehicle and smartphone.
Based on BYD’s DMO hybrid platform, the Bao 8 boasts impressive specifications. It is powered by a high-power 2.0 T engine and dual electric motors with a total power of 550 kW and a maximum torque of 760 Nm, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The model features a BYD blade battery pack with a capacity of 36.8 kWh, providing a combined range of 1,200 kilometers on a full tank of fuel and charge.
The Bao 8’s main competitor is Great Wall Motor’s Tank 700 Hi4-T, which is currently offered in two variants starting at RMB 428,000 and RMB 468,000. Fang Cheng Bao describes the Bao 8 as a new type of off-road vehicle that combines electric technology for faster powertrain response and higher intelligence levels compared to traditional off-road vehicles.
The launch of the Bao 8 is expected to drive further sales growth for Fang Cheng Bao, with the BYD sub-brand delivering a record 6,026 vehicles in October. Since its launch, Fang Cheng Bao has delivered a total of 36,449 vehicles, with the brand’s cumulative deliveries reaching 42,161.
Overall, the Bao 8 represents a significant step forward in the off-road SUV market, blending cutting-edge technology with superior performance to meet the needs of modern consumers.
