BYD, a leading Chinese automaker, has recently introduced the Atto 2 in Nepal, expanding its lineup of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the country. This compact pure electric SUV, known as the Yuan Up in China, was unveiled at the NADA auto show in Kathmandu on August 19, following the launch of the Atto 1 hatchback earlier in the month.
Priced at 4.399 million Nepalese rupees ($31,410), the Atto 2 is the seventh NEV model offered by BYD in Nepal. The company’s distributor in the country, Cimex Inc, also showcases other models such as the Atto 1, Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, and M6 MPV on its website. The Atto 3, branded as the Yuan Plus in China, is among the popular choices for Nepalese customers.
Equipped with a 51.13-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the Atto 2 boasts an impressive WLTP range of 345 kilometers. This larger battery pack provides an extended driving range compared to its Chinese counterpart, making it a compelling option for eco-conscious consumers in Nepal.
In addition to the Atto 2, BYD offers four variants of the Yuan Up in China, with prices ranging from RMB 74,800 to RMB 119,800. The company has been actively exploring the Nepalese market since 2018 when the BYD e6 was selected for the Nepalese presidential fleet. Subsequently, BYD officially entered the local passenger vehicle market in October 2022, with the Atto 3 being the first model introduced.
Despite global challenges, BYD continues to demonstrate strong sales performance, with 344,296 NEVs sold in July alone. This represents a slight year-on-year increase of 0.56 percent, although there was a 10.01 percent decline compared to the previous month. Overseas sales also saw significant growth, with 80,737 vehicles sold in July, reflecting a 169.00 percent increase year-on-year.
With a commitment to sustainable mobility and innovative technology, BYD remains a key player in the global automotive industry. The introduction of the Atto 2 in Nepal further solidifies the company’s presence in the region, offering customers a diverse range of NEV options to meet their evolving needs.
